FOOD FOR THOUGHT...

When I first started this blog, I was in the midst of disordered eating without even being aware of it. I had just been diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor advised me to cut out refined sugar, so I took it upon myself to do just that… And then some.

I decided to eliminate gluten, dairy and refined sugar from my diet. A lot of factors influenced this choice: my doctor’s advice; being terrified of gaining weight; diet culture; "clean eating" blogs; media manipulation… The list goes on!

It felt great at first, but after a while I felt like a bag of crushed eggs. Not long afterwards, my IBS and anxiety made me extremely ill, to the point where I developed Binge Eating Disorder as a way of coping. You can read more about it here.

I eventually decided to get help, which is where my dietitian (and one of my favourite people in the whole world) came in. She taught me all about intuitive eating and how, even with conditions like PCOS, restricting just does not work.

She asked me to do something revolutionary: to stop focusing on what I should and shouldn’t be eating, and start eating what I wanted to eat. After a whole lot of trial and error, I slowly learnt how to become an intuitive eater, how to stop binge eating and eat in a way which suits me.

Everyone’s version of healthy is different. I’m here to hopefully help you find yours! In a world that tells us exactly what we should be eating, how much we should be eating, what we should never, ever eat and, quite frankly, who we should be… I believe that it’s so important to #findYOURhealthy and tell diet culture to eat your shorts.

I promise that Lou’s Little Kitchen will be a safe, non-triggering place for you to read all of my rambles and find meal and snack inspiration and ideas. I pinky promise to never use the words bad, naughty, clean or guilt-free when talking about food and I will always be honest in talking about my recovery.

My goal is to make this blog what I needed to help me through my eating disorder… Only for you guys!

I’m so happy to have you here, little buns.
